Catalogue of Baltic Sea dumped munitions' typesPolish Naval Academy in Gdynia in collaboration with other DAIMON partners has created the online catalogue of all types of munitions resting on the ground of the Baltic Sea. Registered users can view data and filter it by performing multi-attribute database queries.
The catalogue can be accessed here. |
The catalogue covers both chemical and conventional munition objects that have been dumped in the Baltic Sea after World War II. The main aim of the catalogue is to broaden the knowledge on dumped munitions and chemicals that had been used in them. Secondly, the catalogue can be used to identify munition pieces found on the Baltic seafloor during economic activities (e.g. fishery, construction works, dredging, etc.).
The catalogue allows to search for munition objects, based on weapon type, its calibre and country of origin. Where applicable, additional information is provided as separate document, covering various aspects of the weapon type. For log-in rights or further questions, please contact Bartłomiej Pączek. Traffic lights for the release of chemical weapons from dumped ammunition
It has been decided to establish simple non-numerical guidelines for assessing hazards from chemical weapons leaking out from dumped ammunition. These guidelines developed by FFI (Norway) will act as starting points in the DAIMON Decision Support Software (DSS), and will be refined when more knowledge concerning the hazards from such dumped ammunition becomes available.
